How To Create A Modern, Mid-Century Wedding

Grandeur of Yesteryear

The 1920’s are known for their romance, curves and understated sophistication.

Picture this: a seamless blend of the elegance of the past with a fresh, modern twist. In our 1920s-inspired shoot, we’re not just embracing vintage vibes; we’re reimagining mid-century design in ways that feel exciting and new. It’s like taking a trip back in time while staying firmly rooted in the present. In what feels like a full circle, we’re finding styling inspiration for our homes, clothing and even our weddings from 100 years ago.

The 1920’s are known for their romance, curves and understated sophistication. And if you love the charm of this era as much as we do, then look no further. We have all the ideas you’re going to need to plan your dream mid-century modern wedding.

Vintage Lace: To give your styling that extra bit of mid-century vintage charm, add touches of lace. For this collaborative shoot, we used it for a table runner, to “dress up” the outdoor bar and even in the bride’s veil.

Romantic Lighting: To add a glowing touch of romance, we went all out on the lighting. Lots and lots of candles, fairy lights, festoon lights and even a chandelier. You can never have too much beautiful lighting!

Mid-Century touches: We added plenty of subtle mid-century pieces to the table such as crystal glasses, diamante-studded napkin holders, vintage silverware, silver candelabras and a four-tiered wedding cake with vintage design fondant. Even the wedding stationery had wax seals. And we can’t look past the Bride’s gorgeous dress - a mid-century stunner to say the least.

The Perfect Furniture: In our opinion, the Bentwood chair is the epitome of stylish mid-century furniture - and very on trend at the moment. These added a sophisticated touch to the reception table, and along with a vintage table, outdoor lounge and obligatory bar trolley, the scene was set. Most of our furniture choices were also dark wood, so to stay in line with the 1920’s era.

A Modern Twist: To keep it modern and current, we were sure to add those modern touches to take this styled shoot to the next level of luxe. The dusty pink napkins, glass plate holders, festoon lights, abundant greenery and cascading florals brought a modern touch to this shoot. These were perfectly complemented by the curved archways and windows of the venue.

The Fun Element: Last but not least, beyond all the romance needs to be a whole heap of fun. For this we added some lawn games, a whiskey and cigar bar and a sexy vintage car. All relevant to the mid-century era and a guaranteed winner with the guests.

This styled collaborative shoot came together beautifully and we’re even more in love with the 1920’s because of it.
