For all the newly engaged couples, we know it’s a minefield out there when it comes to deciding on design details such as theme and colours. And colour trends in 2019 are expected to be much richer and bolder than recent years. We love the new focus on working with more than one bold colour in your palette, as well as adding lots of natural greenery to compliment these.
A good colour scheme should be versatile to work with and follow the common rule of thumb of 60-30-10. Meaning, look to balance your design and decor with 60% of your primary wedding colour, 30% of the secondary, and 10% of the final accent colour. Don’t be afraid to layer and combine your colours for the perfect mix!
Looking for some colour inspiration for your big day in 2019? Look no further. Here are 5 of the most on-trend colours we’ll be seeing this year:
This berry-hued jewel tone will feature more heavily than previous years and create a striking and moody look to your day. It pairs beautifully with a wide range of colours and when mixed with several shades from the same palette such as pink and red, it creates a fresh and on-trend feel to your styling.
Burgundy can also work perfectly with other colours like camel (which we’re loving!), gold, rust and blue. Softer rust and blush tones help soften the darker tone of burgundy, or alternatively, the burgundy can also be used for pops of colour to compliment a softer colour palette such as another on-trend colour tone: dusty rose.
Dusty rose is a muted and more sophisticated version of pink and the go-to for the ultra-feminine bride. It works well with most wedding decor and in any season. We’re especially loving it for springtime weddings, with lots of greenery and pops of colour from lush, spring flowers.
If you’re loving the new 2019 Pantone Colour of the Year, Living Coral, then plan to mix different hues of the dusty rose and wisteria with bright pops of light coral. Otherwise, other gorgeous colour combos are with dark navy, dusty blue, grey, gold or champagne.
When it comes to colour schemes, green is definitely one of our faves for 2019. You’ll be seeing lots of muted shades of this classic colour, such as silver sage, green jade and moss. Using a green colour scheme is the perfect opportunity to bring a more natural element into your big day and the neutral colour works beautifully with fresh flowers and lots of foliage.
Layer your colour scheme with different shades of green or pair it with other neutral earthy tones like taupe, dove grey, beige and light brown.
Brighter, 70’s style colours like orange, yellow and purple are gaining ground this year, with dusty orange being the new pink for 2019. This desert-inspired hue is both natural and refreshing - and paired with the right colour combinations can be super elegant and oh so romantic!
Being the intense colour that it is, dusty orange can be beautifully softened with shades such as creamy rose and light dusty blue, perfectly merging vintage with modern. You can also pair it up with peach, taupe, grey, beige and even burgundy to create a more bold and earthy vibe in your colour scheme.
Perfect for anytime of the year, the colour blue is definitely on the rise for 2019. Dusty Blue in particular is gaining momentum, pairing well with other shades of blue such as navy and slate blue and is easily used in your attire, linens and printed materials. If you’re into your cool metallics like silver and gunmetal then this colour scheme will work well for you.
You can also create an on-trend and sophisticated look with blue, using a colour palette of periwinkle, muted navy and smoky lavender. Or add a splash of light coral, dusty pink or blush to create that super dreamy feel. There’s so much you can do here - we’re so in love with all the shades of blue!
In fact we love all the colours popping up this year and know there are some fabulous styling opportunities for us to work with here. We can’t wait!
